What is Computer ?.

What is Computer?, History of Computer .

 •History of Computer•
The computer wasn’t born out of entertainment and email but to solve the number-crunching crisis. By 1880, the U.S. population had grown in numbers that it took seven years to tabulate the U.S. Census results. Govt wants to get the job done faster, so punch-card computers that took up the entire room. Today, we carry more computing power in our smartphones and in our hands than yesteryears. Following is the brief history of computers i.e. How they evolved and how can we play games, surf the internet, calculate numbers and stream multimedia on them.  What is Computer.
1801: Joseph Marie Jacquard invents a loom which uses punched wooden cards to weave fabric designs. Early computers used punch cards. What is Computer.

1822:  Charles Babbage (English Mathematician) generates the idea of a steam-driven calculating machine that would do compute tables of numbers. In the next century, the first computer was built.

1890: Herman Hollerith designs a punch card system to do a census, saving U.S. Govt. $5 million. His company then became IBM.

Alan Turing gave the notion of a computable machine. The modern computer was based on his ideas. Hewlett-Packard is founded by David Packard. According to the computer history museum, Bill Hewlett in a Palo Alto, California, garage. Atanasoff and his graduate student, Clifford Berry designs something which can solve 29 questions on its main memory. Pennsylvania professors, John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert, found the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator (ENIAC). They built a computer which is considered the grandfather of digital computers. They both receive funding from the Census Bureau to build the UNIVAC. Grace Hopper derives the first computer language, becomes known as COBOL. What is Computer.

Known as a computer chip. Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce found the integrated circuit,  Kilby was given the Nobel prize in physics in 2000 for his noted work. What is Computer.
1964: Douglas Engelbart makes a modern computer, with a mouse and a graphical user interface (GUI). This marks the shift of computer from a specialized machine for scientists and mathematicians to that is what accessible for the general public.
1969:: Few developers at Bell Labs produce UNIX, an operating system that addressed compatibility issues. Written in the C programming language, UNIX became the operating system of choice among mainframes at large companies and government entities. What is Computer.

Robert Metcalfe unveils Ethernet for connecting multiple computers. He was a research staff at Xerox.
Two computer geeks Paul Allen and Bill Gates,  write software for Altair, taking the base of the new BASIC language. They form their own software company called Microsoft.
1976: Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak start Apple Computers on April Fool’s Day and bring out the Apple I. Apple II came in 1977, It brought out colour graphics and incorporates an audio cassette drive for storage. What is Computer.

1993: The Pentium microprocessor unveils how to use graphics and music on Pcs. 1996: Sergey Brin and Larry Page found the Google search engine at Stanford University.
In 2010, Apple brings to the world,  the iPad, changing the way consumers view media and unveiled tablets. What is Computer.
So, this is the short history of computers from the time they were in a full room to the time where they are in hands for fast processing and multimedia platforms.
